Tucked away in Ortigas Home Depot is Hai Chix & Steak, a joint that serves up delicious comfort food at reasonable prices. New favorite spot. It was my first time but my family has been here before.

The exterior

The interior – Cozy, well lit. Noise levels a bit high so when the restaurant is full, conversation may be a challenge.  Open kitchen makes the entire place (outside also) smell like delicious steak. Downside to this is the scent sticks to your clothes which isn’t so fun.

Menu – Has everything, seafood, rice, meat, pasta and a good drink selection. Best part is, reasonably priced and generously portioned.

Butter Garlic Shrimp – Oooh la la. Garlicky, buttery goodness. If my mom wasn’t such a stickler for manners, she would lick the plate clean.

Hanger Steak and Shrimp Pasta – It’s basically an evolved version of the butter garlic shrimp. Same sauce except with steak chunks and pasta. Double Yum. Good for one.

USDA Ribeye – My dad’s order. Seasoning needs to be evenly distributed. Certain bites were too salty. While cooked just right, the steak itself was a bit tough. Also it was extremely fatty. While Rib Eye is naturally more marbled than any other cut, this particular slab took it to the extreme. We’re carnivores, yes, but even we have our limits.

It must be noted, however, that on my family’s previous visit, they had no issues with the steak. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. No problems with the fattiness or texture. I guess consistency needs a little work.

Hainanese Chicken Rice (HCR) – Thanks to years of HCR consumption and a course at Enderun College, my mother is a self-proclaimed expert on Hainanese Chicken Rice. She said that this needs a bit of improvement. I will take her word for it since I didn’t get to try it.
