I’ve been getting tons of spam texts lately. It’s driving me nuts. Has anyone else been having this problem with Globe?

They are usually:

1) Selling me something

2) Trying to lend me money – Auto Loan! Quick Cash Loan! Pre-Approval! Blah blah blah.

3) Trying to give me something – The most outrageous one I “won” was a chunk of the Marcos wealth, Free trip to Boracay, Free iPhone, Free iPad, Free Gas, Free Gift… you get the picture. Sometimes there’s even a fake DTI number associated with this scam. Don’t believe it though, it’s not true.

4) Propaganda – Anti-Government, Anti-Church, Anti-anything.. you name it. They have texts for that.

5) Asking for cellphone load while pretending to know who I am. Honestly this is the most ridiculous thing ever. I don’t know who falls for this crap. If you ever get this text message, NO, you don’t know that person. NO, they don’t have a secret to share. Just.. IGNORE.

Dear Readers, there is a reason why Spam and Scam have only one letter difference. They are most likely one and the same. Please. Everyone. Ignore these texts.

  • If you want to buy a condo, you can take two steps in any direction and find someone handing flyers.
  • If you need money, go to the bank, borrow from a relative maybe, live within your means or better yet, save money/stop spending.
  • There’s no such thing as a free iPhone/iPad or whatever sort of gift, there is always a catch. If you have won something, they won’t ask you for money first to claim the free gift. They will also notify you through a call or in writing. Also, for example, Globe doesn’t notify using a prepaid number. They will text you as “Globe.”
  • A person you know will always identify themselves right at the onset. They will be willing to answer questions and will be direct to the point. However, just because they know your name, it doesn’t mean you really know them. They could have gotten that from anywhere. Probe them and ask why they are calling you. Obviously, if it’s a generic text or call like the one above, it’s a scammer trying to get your money.

Be smart against scammers.
